Stable House by Frama

The Stable House is one of a few preserved villas in Copenhagen. The building originally functioned as stables for the horses that carried water from the lakes, and the protected facade was created in 1878 by Georg Møller. Frama Studio has completed the residential project, where a series of stylish details included pivoting brass shutters, a terrazzo floor and a custom-made bed wrapped in solid Douglas fir. The result is a light, warm yet minimalistic feel where every detail of the custom-made furnishings and interior has been thought through. Deco Moderne: Heal’s AW19 Collection

For AW19 Heal’s introduces two new collections Deco Moderne and Modern Nostalgia. Deco Moderne was inspired by the glamour of the Art Deco era and carefully blends 1930s influences with contemporary design elements. Touches of gold and delicate etching hark back to the gilded era while contemporary shapes and finishes give the collection a modern feel. A key part of this collection is collaboration with London-based designer, Genevieve Bennett. Her Knot collection, which includes two mirrors, pendants and a rug, is the first of its kind at Heal’s involving a designer working across several categories. Her mirror designs feature intricate etching onto solid brass while her Deco pendant – Genevieve’s first foray into lighting design – combines linear detailing with an opaque, spherical bulb and glass cloche creating a piece with a vintage feel. The Knot Rug demonstrates Genvieve’s instinctive command for pattern and her commitment to creating pieces which are timelessly elegant. Flowing lines loop together to form a distinctive motif which is enhanced by the contrast of shiny viscose detailing against a matte woollen finish. You can …

Preparation for Spring in Stephen and Karen’s London Apartment

As the days are getting longer and warmer (particularly this week that’s been the warmest few February days on record) I have noticed my neighbours spilling out into their gardens rushing to tidy up their outside space, opening the windows wide and welcoming the early change of season. A this time of year with new enthusiasm we are starting to think of seasonal changes to our homes. I have asked Stephen Thomas who works for a London branch of B&B Italia to share with me his thoughts on how he is planning to prepare his home for spring this year. Stephen shares a Victorian London apartment with his wife Karen Yuen who works for Clippings. “This time of year after a long dark and dismal winter, where the early afternoon around 4 O’clock begins with the flick of a light switch,  where the interior of the apartment has been filled with the scents of heavily braised, slow cooked meals eaten from bowls on the coffee table, and the living memory of box sets dramas, and …

House Tour: Hertfordshire Home of Interior Designer Alison Anderson

I am really excited to introduce to you a very talented interior designer Alison Anderson and to show you around her beautifully refurbished Grade II listed Arts & Crafts Hertfordshire home. Alison is a relative new comer to the interior design world, having set up her own practice in the summer of this year, however, she has been immersed in interiors and home products for the past 15 years while running her own interiors PR business.  She is a very creative person and a lot of the skills she has picked up over the years turned out to be completely transferable. She felt interior design was what she was most passionate about, so she decided to take a side step into it.  After finishing her house she was becoming increasingly frustrated that she had to suddenly switch off her design instinct. She has no intention of moving from this house to complete another renovation project, so a career change was the only option. Alison designed this house for the way that they live as a family and …

5 Best Office Chairs For Home

For design conscious people a standard office chair no matter how comfortable and ergonomic it is would be perceived as a bit of an eye sore – normally it is not the most beautiful thing. Hence comes the urge to replace it with a dining chair, as it’s so much easier to find something you would love. But what if you want to combine aesthetics with comfort, especially if you work from home and have to spend hours at your desk? In this week’s blog post I decided to explore what other options we have and there are quite a few. Scandinavian brands particularly stand out. To begin with I would like to share a couple of images from an Instagram feed of @yitai_hu  that caught my eye recently. Trend Report: Autumnal Reds In Interiors

As I sit at my table writing this post I am looking out of the window onto my sunlit garden but you can tell that autumn is well and truly here now. At the back of the garden I can see my neighbours’ tree covered in beautiful bright red and orangey leaves. When my interior magazines arrived at the beginning of the month I noticed that these autumnal colours are reflected in interiors this season. Just look at the covers of Elle Decoration.

The Highlights of London Design Fair 2018

Last Sunday was the final day of London Design Festival. The major events across London included Decorex International, Design Junction, Focus at Chelsea Harbour, London Design Fair as well as multiple design events and installations hosted by museums, galleries and shops. With so much going on and so little time it’s very hard to choose. My choice was limited by the fact that I only had one free day available – 23rd September, the last chance before the festival came to an end. This year I opted to visit Shoreditch district and went to check out London Design Fair. With 36 countries participating in the fair, there was loads to see but I quickly realised that most of my favourite products fell into a couple of categories. I really like discovering artisan made individual and natural products, and there were quite a few ceramics manufacturers whose work attracted my attention. Have a look at these. Camilla Webb Carter produces her work in a workshop in London. I particularly liked her decorative hexagonal tiles that can …
